Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting

Introduction to Patchwork and Quilting

Is this workshop for me?

If you've never tried patchwork or quilting and feel confident on a sewing machine, this is a great chance to come along and learn more about this addictive hobby, whilst picking up lots of handy hints.  Likewise, if you've tried patchwork and quilting at home but would love the opportunity to pick up tips to improve your finish or make the process smoother then this workshop is also for you.

This session will see you create a Mini Patchwork Quilt (27" x 36") piecing together the patchwork top and taking on the quilting. We'll also give you full instructions and demonstration for creating and adding the binding (if time allows this can be done on the day of the workshop, though sometimes you can get carried away with quilting!)

What will this workshop cover?

- Using (and understanding) a grid ruler and rotary cutter for accurate cutting

- Creating your patchwork blocks, using a 1/4" seam, and then bringing these together to create the patchwork quilt top

- Preparing you 'quilt sandwich' of top quilt, wadding and backing fabric ready for quilting

- Quilting, using a walking foot with the opportunity to test out our range of stitches before quilting your own Mini Quilt

- Binding, we'll take you through how to create your own binding and then how to apply this to give your quilt a beautiful finish.

What's included in this workshop?

Most importantly tea, coffee and cake! There will be a small break to refuel so if you'd also like to bring along some lunch or a snack you're more than welcome to.
